WACO – Republican Party of Texas Chairman Steve Munisteri today provided reporters with a series of documents that make it clear that State Rep. Jim Dunnam, chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, does not live in House District 57, the district he represents in the Texas House. In fact, it appears that Dunnam has not lived in House District he represents since the lines were re-drawn as a result of the 2000 Census.

“We believe that it is important that the voters have the facts before them, and the fact is that State Rep. Jim Dunnam does not live among the people of District 57,” said Republican Party of Texas Chairman Steve Munisteri. “Today we have provided evidence before the court of public opinion that conclusively shows that Mr. Dunnam lives outside of District 57, and has for several years, and has actively deceived the voters of the district about his residency.”

Chairman Munisteri provided documents that show:

  • Rep. Dunnam and his family live at 212 Shady Trail in McGregor — that address is not in House District 57.
  • That house is listed in his name on the property tax records of McClennan County.
  • Mr. Dunnam’s three cars, each bearing a State Officeholder license plate, sit in the driveway at Shady Trail.

Dunnam’s home was not included in House District 57 during the last redistricting process. He was challenged for living outside the District in 2002, admitted that his residence was outside District 57, and said he would move at the end of that school year. The records show that in the eight years since, he never moved.

“Rep. Dunnam chooses not to live among the very people he purports to represent. Even worse, he is dishonest about it. This displays just the brand of out-of-touch arrogance that has the American people angrier than they have ever been with elected officials like Jim Dunnam, who refuse to play by the rules.”

Chairman Munisteri presented the evidence against Dunnam in a Waco press conference Thursday.
