AUSTIN, TX – The Republican Party of Texas has filed a lawsuit today challenging the residency of Pete Gallego, who placed second behind Pete Flores in the July 31st Special Election for State Senate District 19.

“Pete Gallego has established a longtime pattern of misleading the voters of Texas regarding his place of residency. It’s common knowledge Gallego does not live in Senate District 19. His wife’s name is on a home outside of Senate District 19. He has for years lived with his family in Austin, where his wife has a homestead exemption; this is well-known and well-documented” said RPT Chairman James Dickey.“We filed suit today to prevent this recurring pattern of deceit from being rewarded with a place on the ballot for the Texas Senate.”

Subsequently, a complaint was also filed against Gallego with the Texas Ethics Commission regarding Gallego’s failure to report real estate interests in Travis County on his campaign ethics report.

“Gallego failed to disclose the property his wife owns in Travis County on his campaign ethics report, and failed to report his interest in the home, even though the public record shows him as a borrower on the deed of trust,” said Dickey.

“SD 19 has suffered enough corruption.  It is shameful that Democrats have chosen to replace one corrupt lawbreaker with another to run for Senate District 19,” Dickey continued. “The voters of this district deserve an honest elected official to represent them in the Texas Senate; one who actually lives in the district like they do. It’s clear that Gallego has only kept his property in Alpine to dupe the voters into believing he is a resident of Senate District 19. Enough is enough.”
