Republicans should decide on the next Texas House Speaker together

Texas House Republicans should stand united in their selection of the next speaker, whoever that may be.

In that spirit, at the direction of the State Republican Executive Committee, the Republican Party of Texas published a Republican Caucus Speaker Selection Commitment Form––a form for Republicans running for the Texas House of Representatives to indicate to primary voters whether they will support the Republican speaker candidate who wins the majority of the votes in the Republican Caucus. This form helps candidates comply with a resolution from the SREC, passed at their September 23, 2017 meeting. Candidates filing as a Republican for a House seat will receive this form, among others, when they file for office beginning this Saturday, November 11, 2017.

RPT Chairman James Dickey said: “The voters and party base have been clear: members of the Texas House Republican delegation should vote on the floor for the selection of the House Republican Caucus candidate for Speaker. They should decide on a candidate together, then approach the House floor as unified body.”
