WHEREAS, Ralph Moody Hall was born May 3, 1923 in Fate, Texas in Rockwall County; and

WHEREAS, following graduation from Rockwall High School in 1941, Mr. Hall enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942 and served during World War II, where he flew Hellcat fighters and earned the rank of Lieutenant; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hall and his beloved Mary Ellen Murphy Hall married in 1944 and remained married through her passing in 2008; and

WHEREAS, following World War II, Mr. Hall attended Texas Christian University and the University of Texas, then completed a law degree at Southern Methodist University in 1951 and was admitted to the Texas Bar; and

WHEREAS, following his service in the United States Navy, Mr. Hall served his community and the State of Texas as the County Judge of Rockwall County for 12 years and as the State Senator for the 9th Senate District of the Texas for 10 years; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hall continued his life of service by serving for 34 years as the United States Congressman for 4th Congressional District of Texas from 1981-2014, including a term as Chair of the House Committee on Space, Science, and Technology and, at the age of 91, becoming the oldest person to cast a vote in the United States House of Representatives and one of the final two World War II veterans to serve in Congress; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Moody Hall passed away at his home in Rockwall at the age of 95 on March 7, 2019, uniting with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and reuniting with his beloved Mary Ellen; now

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Republican Party of Texas hereby honors the life and distinguished service of Congressman Ralph Moody Hall and encourages all to remember and celebrate his remarkable achievements in a lifetime of service dedicated to Texas the United States of America.
