Republican Party of Texas Chairman James Dickey Releases Statement on the Freeing of Dallas Salon Owner, Shelley Luther

AUSTIN, TX – Republican Party of Texas Chairman James Dickey has released the following statement on the freeing of Dallas Salon Owner, Shelley Luther:

“Today, the Texas Supreme Court has restored sanity after the extreme, out-of-touch decision by Democrat Judge Eric Moyé to jail Shelley Luther, the brave businesswoman who has captured the attention of the nation for simply trying to get back to work and provide for her family. It’s clear the decision by Moyé was an abuse of judicial discretion and a political stunt.

“We thank Governor Greg Abbott for amending his Executive Order to make clear that confinement is not an acceptable punishment for those who violate executive orders related to COVID-19. This revised order applies retroactively to also release Ana Isabel Castro-Garcia and Brenda Stephanie Mata who were confined in Laredo in a ludicrous sting operation. As the Attorney General said, no Texan should be punished for peacefully resisting an executive order which forced their businesses to close through no fault of their own.”
