AUSTIN, TX – Today was Election Day for the Special Election in Texas Senate District 6. Republican Candidate Martha Fierro came just a few votes short of making the runoff against Democrat candidates. Republican Party of Texas (RPT) Chairman James Dickey commented:

“Congratulations to Martha Fierro on her run for the Texas Senate. She landed within striking distance because of the hard work of her and her team during a short Special Election that included the Thanksgiving holiday. Martha’s dedication to the constituents she hoped to represent was evident. We truly appreciate Martha stepping up and not just throwing her name in the race, but working hard to win and to advance Republican values. RPT financially invested in Martha’s race through our Candidate Resource Committee and through staffing field efforts. I added my voice to those asking voters to come out to support Martha and RPT distributed emails into the district. Though we are disappointed by the results, we are encouraged by her strong showing. As a matter of fact, while there will not be a runoff, Martha received 136% more votes than both Republicans earned in the same 2014 special election – and there were fewer total voters.

“In every race across the state, Republicans should be challenging Democrats to ensure the voters are aware of what the Republican Party truly stands for – lower taxes, quality education, and a booming economy which benefits all. The Texas GOP looks forward to future success because of candidates like Martha Fierro who are willing to combat Democrats and promote policies that make lives better for Texas families.”
