AUSTIN, TX – Today was Election Day for the Special Election in Texas House District 79. Republican Candidate Hans Sassenfeld attempted to take the race to a runoff, but was not successful. However, his race did help activate Republicans where that likely would not have been the case had he not run. Republican Party of Texas Chairman James Dickey commented:

“Congratulations to Hans Sassenfeld on his run for the Texas House in District 79. He may not have held the race to a runoff, but he showed that simply being in the race can have an impact on the election for Republicans, even in deeply blue districts. Republicans must challenge Democrats in every race across the state because the Republican message rings true for all who hear it – low taxes, quality education, and a booming economy will help everyone reach their highest potential.”
