AUSTIN, TX – Today State Representative Ron Reynolds arrived in court to begin serving his one-year jail sentence for his conviction on five misdemeanor barratry charges, commonly referred to as “ambulance chasing.”

“Democrats should be demanding the resignation of State Representative Ron Reynolds who went to jail today for taking advantage of people using ‘ambulance chasing’ tactics. The Republican Party of Texas demands his resignation,” said RPT Chairman James Dickey. “The Republican Party platform clearly states, ‘We support that any state elected official convicted of or placed on deferred adjudication for a felony or misdemeanor that constitutes a crime of moral turpitude while in office be permanently removed from office.’ Ron Reynolds should resign or absolutely be removed from office and from the ballot. It has been acknowledged his staff will run his office while he is in jail. It is not only unfair to the voters of HD 27 to have an absentee Representative who will be spending time in jail rather than working on their behalf, it’s ludicrous and an embarrassment for Texans that he remain in elected office while in jail.”
