On this Veteran’s Day, the Republican Party of Texas congratulates our National Committeewoman Borah Van Dormolen, on her recent recognition as a Distinguished Military Retiree by the Fort Hood Retiree Council! Her selection for this prestigious honor was made by the Retiree Council serving the 250,000 retirees from over 175 counties in Texas. She was recognized for her outstanding contributions to the betterment of the community, the retirees, families and their survivors and honorable service to our country.

On Oct 29th, Borah was recognized as Distinguished Military Retiree during the III Corps and Fort Hood, Texas Retiree Celebration. Major General William Grimsley, Deputy Commanding General of III Corps and Fort Hood presided over the ceremonies which included recognition and presentation of awards of 16 other retiring Officers and Soldiers. Borah’s husband, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Rich Castle was also recognized and received a certificate of Appreciation. The III Corps units were represent by their unit’s color guards and the 1st Cavalry Division band provided ceremonial and military music. The event concluded with retreat and retirement of the post colors for the day.

This event only occurs once a year and it is in conjunction with Retiree Appreciation Weekend. The events continued through Saturday with a breakfast, open ceremony of the days events with special speaker out of Washington discussing issues effecting our active duty military, veterans and retirees. The rest of the day was filled with the opportunity to get medical checkups, flu shots, legal papers prepared, and vendors assisting retirees with other programs. The day’s events concluded with a banquet with the Commanding officers and several other retired generals, and Borah was honored and introduced at each event.

The photos attached were taken during the Retreat Ceremony and the Colors (flags) in the background representing the numerous Units that are stationed at Fort Hood. The ceremony was at the base of the III Corps Headquarters Flagpole. The presiding Officer was Major General William Grimsley, Acting Commander, Fort Hood and the other soldier pictured is Command Sergeant Major Archie Davis, Jr. Command Sergeant Major Fort Hood. The III Corps Commanding General and the majority of the Headquarters are currently deployed to Iraq. The 1st Cavalry Division Band provided the music.
