La Joya ISD Spending Ignores Students, Builds Waterpark
RPT Exposes Abuse of Hard Working Taxpayer Money

LA JOYA, TX – La Joya ISD, located just outside of McAllen, Texas, has chosen to prioritize building a $20 million waterpark rather than delivering quality education for its students. Republican Party of Texas Chairman James Dickey commented:

“La Joya ISD built a $20 million water park with taxpayer dollars and it is truly illogical that a school district would choose to build a water park rather than focus on its students. At the time of this endeavor, the school district had an average ACT score of 16, nearly 93% of its students were considered ‘economically disadvantaged’ and the average teacher salary is around $53,000. The money wasted on this waterpark is sorely missed in the classroom. That money could have gone toward hiring new teachers, increasing teacher pay, or any number of other opportunities to ensure that students receive the best possible educational opportunities.

“This level of waste of taxpayer dollars is truly astounding. Why a district that continues to fail the students thought it was appropriate to build a waterpark with taxpayer dollars is absurd.”
