Governor Greg Abbott Calls on State Agencies to Cut Fees and Reduce Licensing Regulations

AUSTIN, TX – Governor Greg Abbott sent a letter to Texas State Agencies in which he gave them a deadline of December 1st to come up with a plan to limit regulations and cut fees on occupational-licensing rules. In the letter, the Governor requested that agencies remove licensing barriers for those with a criminal record “where appropriate.”

This request from Governor Abbott aligns with Republican Party of Texas Plank 24 which states: We call upon the Texas Legislature to review all business/professional licensing programs and associated licensing for boards for the purpose of abolishing as many as reasonably possible and repealing those laws, rules, and regulations that exist merely to generate revenue from the licensing process.

Republican Party of Texas Chairman James Dickey commented:

“We applaud Governor Greg Abbott for prioritizing Texans who have been disproportionately affected by burdensome requirements and fees for occupational-licensing. We included this in our platform because unnecessary barriers slow the progress of Texans ready to get to work. We appreciate Governor Abbott taking another step to implement great Republican policies and make life better for all Texans in the process.”
