Chairman’s Circle Profile : Ross Davis

One of the reasons the Republican Party of Texas was able to eliminate its past debt last year and regain its financial footing has been the establishment of the Chairman’s Circle, which is composed of individuals who have agreed to contribute or raise $25,000 for the party within 12 months. The RPT plans a series of features on our Chairman’s Circle members so that you can be acquainted with those who have generously supported our party during the past year.

Our first profile is of Ross Davis of Houston.

Ross Davis grew up in the Memorial area of Houston and attended Memorial High School as a classmate of our State Chairman Steve Munisteri. He began his political involvement as a co-founder with Steve of a chapter of the conservative group Young Americans for Freedom at Memorial High School. Ross and Steve had to convince the administration that a conservative club would be a benefit prior to receiving permission to set one up. Ross, along with Steve and other members of the Memorial YAF club, began his involvement with the party by attending their local precinct conventions, state senatorial district conventions and state convention in 1976. At the age of 18, Ross was elected a delegate to the 1976 Republican State Convention and Steve Munisteri joined him as an alternate delegate from the same precinct.

After high school, Ross went on to the University of Texas where he obtained a degree in geology and a Master’s in Business Administration.  Upon graduation he joined his family businesses. Ross works with his father Leon and his brother Lance in operating Davis Asset Management and Davis Southern Operating Co. The Davis family has developed dozens of commercial real estate projects in the Houston area and Tulsa, Oklahoma including shopping centers, warehouses and office buildings and is also active in the venture capital business. Leon Davis is an independent oil producer (wildcatter) and Ross has carried on the family tradition having discovered and developed numerous oil and gas fields in Southeast Texas.

Ross and his family were active in the Tea Party movement and last year Ross took on as his special project, recruiting Roy Morales to run against Gene Green for Congress in District 29. Ross also raised money for Roy and helped organize his campaign. Ross attended the 2010 Republican State Convention as a delegate.

Ross is married to his wife Gail, who is a former practicing attorney and they have three daughters – Alexandra, Katherine and Elizabeth.

The picture above is of Chairman Munisteri presenting Ross Davis with his Chairman’s Award for having agreed to raise $25,000 for the Republican Party of Texas. Chairman Munisteri stated, “On behalf of the entire RPT, I wish to extend our thanks to Ross Davis for his tireless support of Republican candidates and the party. Ross and his family have been strong supporters of the Republican Party for two generations and we look forward to working with them in the future.”
