Democrats Silence Women Who Survived Abortion
They Refused to Show Up for Their Constituents

AUSTIN, TX – This morning four Democrats refused to attend the Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence Committee hearing. Due to their absence, and the delayed flight of a Republican member, the committee could not hear testimony.

Democrats refused to perform their duties as elected officials because a key piece of legislation, HB-16 – the Texas Born-Alive Infant Protection Act, was on the agenda. Three women who survived abortion traveled to the Texas State Capitol to tell their story and the Democrats, through their absence, are trying to silence these women. Republican Party of Texas Chairman James Dickey commented:

“The Democrats who refused to show up to their jobs today not only failed their constituents and their duties as elected officials, but failed the lives of millions of unborn and born-alive children – including the women who traveled to give testimony today. Their disrespect of these women and the legislative process is in keeping with their utter disregard for human life.”

Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence Committee Chairman Jeff Leach has guaranteed these women will be heard and plans to call the committee back after the floor session. Chairman James Dickey continued:

“The Republican Party of Texas stands for all human life and we are saddened this can even be seen as an issue. Defending all human life and ending abortion is one of our top Legislative Priorities during the 86th Legislative Session. We are proud of Representative Jeff Leach and the many Republicans who have shown leadership on this issue.”
